About Us...

Thank you for letting us share our story with you.  With your continued support, this will only reflect the early years of a yet-to-be-written long history of continued success building a quieter place to live.  This page describes the origin of our company and background on its founders.  You will learn about our professional experience and personal interests.

What's in a name...

You often come across companies named after their founder or founders: Ford Motor Company, Mrs. Fields (cookies), Ben & Jerry's (ice cream). So, we decided to include our initials alongside a descriptive name to identify our business and products  offered.  A list of several names starting with either an S or an A followed by variations on keywords related to sound and soundproofing was created.  Most names were quickly tossed out simply because too many of them were already taken or reserved.  So, the search continued until one day...

Well, before you find out the rest of the story, it is time to introduce ourselves.  We are Alex and Skip.  We met in San Diego at a small, family-owned business.  Our friendship developed from a common passion to help customers solve their noise problems.  Through the years we've helped thousands of satisfied customers.  We've worked with homeowners, architects, general contractors, and installers to educate, inform, and support them from the first call up through the completion of their soundproofing project.  Combined, we offer you more than 40 years of Customer Service, Distribution Sales, Marketing, Engineering, Business Management, and Soundproofing experience.

Back to the naming of SoundAway...

One day Skip's wife, Jodi, said something about us making "sound go away".  Well, no light bulb turned on.  There were no immediate fireworks but over the following couple of days we kept going back to the name.  SoundAway met our criteria.  It reflected the business of making sound go away by treating a room with acoustical products or soundproofing an area to contain the sound (noise, for some).  It also started with an S for Skip and an A for Alex.  Now you know the origin of SoundAway.

We founded SoundAway Corporation to serve your needs with integrity offering exceptional products when you need them, at an affordable price.

Alex Gomez, Founder

I grew up in East Los Angeles minutes away from the University of Southern California where I  earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering.  The first years of my career were devoted to the design of mainframe computers and semiconductor chips.  The structured, methodical, team, and goal-oriented environment was instrumental in developing fundamentally sound business practices.  Personal interests in video editing, music, and an entrepreneurial spirit led to a career in acoustics and soundproofing.  A career that has fulfilled a dream to start a business that enhances the quality of life.

Outside of work, I spend as much time as I can with my family.  I'm a big fan of the beautiful game of soccer.  I've coached boys and girls ranging from 5 to 18 years of age at the recreational and competitive levels.  I'm an avid reader and I play the piano - for my entertainment only.

Samuel "Skip" Snyder, Founder

I was raised in Chicago where I attended De Paul University earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing.  I spent several years traveling the western states as an Industrial Distribution Sales Manager.  Years of face-to-face meetings with prospective customers sharpened my listening skills, developed my ability to work with corporate accounts, small business owners, and material suppliers.  Through the years, I've been recognized for outstanding level of service and exceptional knowledge of the needs of my customers.  I've helped thousands of customers, across America solve their noise problems and look forward to helping you.

Away from the office you'll find me on the sidelines cheering for my grandchildren as they play soccer.  Not long ago, I joined the local chorale group to raise funds for scholarships awarded to high school seniors planning to study music in college.  In my spare time, I enjoy  teaching Sunday school.
